Homesick

After watching a spanish programe about Stockholm, I started checking the pictures we took while we were there. Then I start to cry, and I asked my self what this place have to make me feel like this, to have goosebumps, to make my heart beat faster and stronger. What’s that magical feelig? why do I miss this place so much and can’t think about anything else?

And after almost four months, I still wake up and thinking i’m at home, feeling the pure air, feeling the snow, I can still feel my emotions, my thoughts when I was staring through the window on our apartment, and watching every detail, listening the pendeltag going and coming from the city, my roomates watching a movie or listening to some music. All this seems yesterday, and it feels really strong, and really real. Sometimes I have to chech some pictures proving that all this was real, because right now it seems it was a dream.

I can’t even descrive what I feel right now, that homesick, all the memories, and all the innocence we had when we thought we had enough time, and now it’s over. My heart shrinks when I hear someone talking about you, or watching you in a picture or on the television. I can’t wait to come to you again and fill my lungs by your pure air, while taking a coffee with a kanelbulle from pressbyran in gamla stan. I can’t wait to come to you and go to T-Centralen, listening to the voice saying “nästa”. I can’t wait to come to you and go to Sergel Torg, and then go inside Kulturhuset and visit all the expositions there. And after that go on food to Kungstragarden and stop there for a while, staring at the differences between winter time and spring time, all kids playing, the little square full of water, the trees in pink colour… I can’t wait to come to you and go back to Skansen, walking by the water while eating an ice cream. I can’t wait to come to you and go to Bjornkulla to visit all my friends there and hug them, but this time not like the swedish greeting, like an old friend who is thinking about them all the time, and huging them with power, crying and letting them go.

Summer is coming, and my degree is ending. My spirit is calling me, from the Venice of the North. Now it’s time to come back to reunion myself with it.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.
Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.
‘Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present .’

Temps de flors (Flower time)

Tomorrow Girona is wearing flowers in every street, every yard, in the houses, everywhere, because from the 11th to the 19th of May, we are celebrating flower time in our city.

Girona gets full of tourists and people from Girona that goes all around taking pictures and having a really great time. We always pray for not to rain during these days, because it can be a super dissaster.

So today I went to prepare that exposition with a friend of mine and her class, because they are studying architecture and they design a yard. As I really love doing things with flowers and spending time doing something different, I went with them, and as you can see in the picture, the results are spectacular.

Tomorrow I’m going to visit all the flowers around Girona with my roommates who stayed with me in Stockholm and also with another catalan girl we met during the erasmus, and of course, my super friend Emma (petalsoverthemoon.tumblr.com). We all four are going to have a really good time, aroud flowes, under the sun, taking some beers and doing a little bit of tourism in our hometown
